About 85% of seniors prefer to stay in their home for as long as possible.
In order to stay longer they are looking for ideas to make their homes
organized, safe and accessible.
Here is a list of suggestions to do in order to be prepared and organized in
-Keep important papers such as surveys, permits, home improvement receipts,
appliance manuals and home improvement receipts/warranties filed together.
-While reverse mortgages are often pitched at seniors to free up equity from
their home, they can be very costly. It would be better to use a secured
line of credit but only in an emergency.
-Start decluttering now because this task can take months to accomplish.
There are companies that specialize in decluttering.
-Do all the needed repairs and maintenance. Large renovations are not always
necessary to maintain the equity in your home.
-Consider hiring a decorator/home stager for ideas on how to update the
décor. You might as well enjoy the fresh paint, pictures and window
treatments before selling.
